Last weekend saw the very first Orkney Archaeology Festival, and what a weekend it was!
From inspiring talks and guided walks to hands-on workshops and family activities, it was a true celebration of Orkney’s extraordinary archaeology and the people who help bring it to life.
We’re now taking a short break to reflect on the festival—what worked well, what we can improve, and how we might shape things for next year. This has been an exciting first step, and we’re already buzzing with ideas for the future.

And yes, next year is definitely being planned for. The provisional (nearly confirmed) dates are 9th – 13th September. That’s unlikely to change but please don’t book flights just yet!
Finally, we would like to say how we really appreciated the generosity of so many people who came along to the events, bought raffle tickets and dropped money into our Donation Buckets – thank you so much!
