News from Nick Card.
Double success for the Ness!!! Great news from London this evening where it was announced at the Current Archaeology Live Conference that we had won not only the Research Project of the Year (no real surprise there!) for the second time, but also Archaeologist of the Year (big surprise!) – feeling both delighted and humbled as we were up against stiff opposition from other very fine projects and archaeologists. Both awards I feel though are there in recognition of the effort put in by the whole Ness team/family over the last 20 years – I take my hat off to you all, but special thanks to my Orcadian co-conspirators Anne, Mark and Sigurd. A fitting celebration to mark the end of two decades of excavation. Unfortunately, we couldn’t be there in person but both awards were collected on our behalf by old friend, Time Team stalwart and geophysicist John Gater.
This however was not the only Orcadian project recognised at the event – the Swandro project on Rousay was named Rescue Project of the Year – many congratulations Steve and Julie!
All the awards being a great accolade for Orkney and its archaeology.
Thank you to Current Archaeology and everyone who voted for us. Now away to celebrate with a wee dram or two!
